Privacy Policy
The International Relations and Security Network (ISN) takes online privacy very seriously. Any information that we collect as a result of the use of our website remains confidential.
Like many websites, we collect non-personally identifiable information about our users for two main purposes:
- To analyze traffic patterns on the website
- To tailor our services to individuals and user groups
This statement contains information about the way we collect information about our users and how we use that information. If you have any questions or concerns, please send us an email.
Log Files
In almost all cases, when you visit a website, web servers log your interaction with the website in a log file. Standard log files, like ours, contain basic information, such as what time a certain page was viewed and the IP (internet protocol) address of the visitor. We use this information to analyze trends, administer the website, track users’ movements, and gather demographic information for aggregate use. We do not match IP addresses with individual users.
Newsletters
If a user wishes to subscribe to any of our newsletters, we ask for some basic information, which we use in order to learn more about ISN user groups. However, the only information we must have from newsletter subscribers is their email address; the provision of any additional information is optional. In the future, we may use such additional information to send users ISN content that may be of special interest to them; for example, we may inform our users from Oceania about publications relevant to New Zealand.
We store users’ personal information in our system for as long as they use the service they have requested, and we delete it, if they cancel their newsletter subscription(s).
Surveys
From time-to-time, we undertake user surveys. Participation in these surveys is voluntary. Information requested may include personal information (such as name, gender, age, and profession), additional information (such as nationality and place of residence), and questions about how the user uses our website. The information provided is not associated with individual users. It is aggregated and used to allow us to monitor and improve the website.
Personal Information Protection
We do not pass on, sell, or rent personal information – including email addresses – to any third party, unless ordered to do so by a court of law. Personal information submitted to us is available only to ISN employees who manage this information for the purposes of contacting users or sending them emails and newsletters, as requested by them.
Links
This website contains links to other websites. Please be aware that the ISN is not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites. We encourage our users to read the privacy statements of each website they visit that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by the ISN.
