Description:
The purpose of this CIA study (dated 26 August 1965) is to estimate the significance of the Warsaw Pact as a military alliance, the military capabilities of the satellite states, and probable trends over the period 1965-1966. It concludes that the Warsaw Pact, once only a "paper organization", has become an important element in Soviet European policy and military planning and that the Soviet Union will most likely continue its efforts to strengthen the organization.
