Description:
This is a report by Lieutenant General Fritz Streletz on his meeting with Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of Staff of the Polish Armed Forces Florian Siwicki in East Berlin in 1981. Streletz expressed concern at the development in Poland and assured East German support in the fight against the Solidarność movement. Siwicki assessed the situation in Poland as more difficult than ever. Specifically, he informed about the demands to introduce of a five-day week, to establish a farmers' trade union, and to force access to mass media. Also, he deplored the role of the Catholic church and Solidarność leader Lech Wałęsa. According to Siwicki, the Polish Army developed deployment variants against the opposition.
