Description:
This CIA estimate looks at the array of nuclear systems within Central Europe and discusses some indices of the numerical and qualitative balance between Warsaw Pact and NATO nuclear forces. It then evaluates trends in the balance as a result of the deployment of new systems and relates those trends to the nuclear doctrines and employment policies of the two alliances.
