East German Ideas Concerning a Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone in Central Europe: ProposalMay 1986 |
||
Description:
These documents are two joint draft proposals by the East German Socialist Unity Party (SED) and the West German Social Democratic Party (SPD) for the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Central Europe. The nuclear-free zone should be located along the border between the two military blocs of NATO and the Warsaw Pact. The SPD and the SED encourage the governments of East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and West Germany to start negotiating as soon as possible. The documents also provide information on the responsibilities and control measures that a nuclear-free zone would imply.
