The "Soyuz 83" Exercise: Analysis

Description: This is a Czechoslovak military analysis of the Warsaw Pact's 1983 "Soyuz 83" exercise. The document describes how the maneuvers reflect new Soviet military plans. The premise of the exercise is that NATO has the ability to launch simultaneous surprise attacks on all fronts in the European theater. It is further assumed that the West would deliver over 5,000 nuclear warheads if its initial assault failed.
